About Our Retreats

Searching for your true purpose?

Understanding your life meaning is not easy. There’s a lot of pressure in the world, and it seems like we all have to fit inside a tiny box called “social norms.”

My goal with all retreats is to help individuals find their inner purpose and learn to reconnect with one another.

Last year, I thought I knew my true inner purpose. For years, I fantasized about living on a white sandy beach with beautiful blue water. I wanted to move to Isla Mujeres, Mexico. I had two loves: Isla and my career as a psychotherapist.

I went to college for a total of 9 years. I remember the days of frantically trying to balance working a full or part time job, driving two hours roundtrip sometimes daily to complete my masters degree, and trying to squeeze in internship hours. I ate in my car A LOT as I ran from to place to place.

I felt ungrateful because I thought so much about wanting to live on a coast and minimized my passion for counseling.  I coped every year by taking time off to travel as much as I could. I knew I still loved my job because I never dreaded going back to it, but I never felt truly happy and satisfied.

I kept telling myself “someday” I could live on Isla Mujeres.  I believed after I put “my time in” and deserved the retirement phase of life, it would happen. This idea of waiting 30 more years was emotionally depleting and frustrating.

I decided to take my first real life risk… I followed my own advice to do what made me the happiest WHERE I was the happiest.

I can admit I was terrified! But I didn’t back out! Somehow I just knew I really needed to trust my instincts on this decision and keeping moving forward. Now I can look back and say “I did it, I moved to Mexico.”  It was not an easy process. The stages of selling everything and relocating to a foreign country were the hardest six months of my life.

I do the work I love and only see my ideal clients rather than anyone who calls for therapy.  However, I soon realized I didn’t want to be indoors working online all the time.  I missed the in-person contact and craved the smell of ocean salt.

I grew to realize I do love my counseling work but it’s only a portion of the meaning to my life.

I sat on the beach one day, gazing at my beautiful surroundings, and I had an epiphany.

For years, I worked with my clients on learning to think outside the box.  I said over and over to people “those are just social norms, you can be whoever and whatever you want to be.”

I stared off at the beautiful Playa Norte beach and said to myself “I am living outside the box.”  This idea filled me with excitement.

Life is about freedom to be who we are and crushing the fear of change.

I continued to brainstorm over time, and that lead to a desire to design retreats to show people how to get the most fulfillment out of their life.

No two stories are the same. My story is about a Type A overachieving psychotherapist who craved the balance of providing therapy and living on the coast of Mexico. I now balance my therapy practice with an entirely second business offering retreats and coaching.

I know your story is different than mine.
I want to hear your story.

I want to help you identify and claim your own version of “an island in the Caribbean.”

Maybe you want a better relationship with your partner, a life in the mountains, to travel the world in an RV, or sell everything and live in a tiny house. Maybe it’s as simple as empowering yourself to take yoga classes; learn a foreign language; or leave a job you hate.

The Isla Getaway Retreats focuses on giving each person the encouragement and power to complete their life story rather than just talking and thinking about it.

While reading this today, please reach out if something has resonated with you. Even if a retreat is not possible for you, we can possibly still work together. Contact me today for a free 20 minute consultation to discuss if we are a good fit for coaching or a space in an Isla Getaway Retreat.
